During the American Revolutionary War, also known to the French as the Anglo-French War (1775-1783), Angelique-Charolotte lent money to His Majesty, King Louis XVI for the war effort of François Claude Amour, (1739 – 1800), Marquis de Bouillé du Chariol (Source 7). It was the Marquis de Bouillé du Chariol who in the name of the King of France asked for money. (Source 2, Page 1).In a letter to her, the Marquis stated:
"Chère cousine, pouvez-vous faire des avances à Sa Majesté?" (Source 2, Page 36)
The Marquis de Bouillé du Chariol was governor of the French islands of Guadalupe and Martinque. He was also responsible for capturing several British possessions in the Caribbean during the American Revolutionary War. The French effort in the Caribbean no doubt weakened the British and contributed to the overall American victory (Source 2, Pages 1-2.
The Papin de L'Epine and Gaigneron Jollimont de Marolles controlled four large houses (quatre habitations) that produced yearly about 7,000.00Francs. This money as well as other resources, Madame Papin de L'Epine put forth for the continued war effort of France against the British (Source, 2, Page 36)
